Now, in 2026, it is estimated that it has around 5% of the market share for US prediction market apps. Given market-leader Kalshi traded more than $120 billion in 2025, and that is looking likely to grow across 2026, even 5% of that trading volume should mean hundreds of millions in extra revenue for FanDuel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is important to separate trading volume from revenue. Prediction-market volume reflects the total value of contracts traded, while platform revenue depends on fees, spreads, market structure and customer activity. That distinction matters when evaluating how much a new entrant like FanDuel Predicts could realistically add to FanDuel\u2019s wider business.<\/p>\n<p>The operator also recently partnered with Crypto.com to offer crypto price contracts on its platform &#8211; in a deal that could be worth billions more over several years. That&#8217;s impressive, considering FanDuel Predicts launched only six months ago. But it&#8217;s not nearly as big a rise as Kalshi&#8217;s, or its nearest competitor, Polymarket. So what are the details behind FanDuel&#8217;s entry into the market, and what does this say about the wider event markets space?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Prediction_Markets_Have_Boomed_since_2024\"><\/span>How Prediction Markets Have Boomed since 2024<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Event trading has existed for years. Crypto price prediction markets and DeFi apps offering things like insurance and hedge trading on weather and other adverse market externalities is not new. Before that, even political polling companies and market research groups had set up such platforms.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was Kalshi and Polymarket who transformed the niche, largely stagnant sector to the point that markets now trade billions of dollars daily. Both operators were valued in the tens of millions in 2022 and are now\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/05\/07\/kalshi-doubles-valuation-in-5-months-hitting-22-billion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">valued at $22 billion<\/a>\u00a0and $15 billion, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Kalshi in particular spent many years trying to convince the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to license them as a retail financial trading platform. Eventually, that did happen and Kalshi launched in all 50 states &#8211; but it wasn&#8217;t until the 2024 US Presidential Election that they really took off.<\/p>\n<p>Once some hype was built around the accuracy of Kalshi&#8217;s markets in calling election results, the enticing combination of clear A\/B outcome predictions and financial market-style trading saw both operators explode basically overnight.<\/p>\n<p>They haven&#8217;t stopped since. So far in 2026, total monthly trading volumes have gone up around 5x at both operators from 2025 levels and Kalshi reached a billion dollars in daily trading during the FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FanDuel_Predicts_and_Sportsbooks_Entering_the_Space\"><\/span>FanDuel Predicts and Sportsbooks Entering the Space<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>FanDuel Predict\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmegroup.com\/media-room\/press-releases\/2025\/12\/22\/fanduel-and-cme-group-launch-fanduel-predicts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">launched in December 2025.<\/a>\u00a0Many in the business considered the big two sportsbooks in the US &#8211; FanDuel and DraftKings &#8211; quite slow to react to the rise of prediction markets, which had been booming off the charts for well over a year before either of them got in on the game.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, both operators seem to have found their space in the market. Kalshi and Polymarket&#8217;s massive first mover advantage has kept them well ahead so far, but 5% market share in six months (and growing) is no mean feat.<\/p>\n<p>Both operators have also launched all-in-one gambling apps for a combined experience. FanDuel Predicts is now available in the same app as its regulated sports betting, casino and daily fantasy sports markets. Although Kalshi makes the majority of its revenues (somewhat controversially) on sports contracts, event markets remain huge for Polymarket.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Kalshi, Polymarket embraced crypto as a core part of its company identity from the start. As well as being focused on crypto payments and access, Polymarket has a ton of crypto price-focused markets &#8211; such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bitcoin prices on certain dates<\/li>\n<li>Bitcoin is up or down daily<\/li>\n<li>Bitcoin all time high by ___?<\/li>\n<li>Will BTC outperform gold in 2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Side note: they also have crypto price markets on ETH and altcoins,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/community\/articles\/6a351db21ed2e94827eec05d\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">like the struggling Dogecoin<\/a>, but BTC remains the most popular.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the above markets see tens of millions of dollars in daily trading at Polymarket alone. FanDuel Predicts recently partnered with exchange Crypto.com (which also runs its own prediction market platform) to expand the number of crypto markets on the FanDuel app.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_crypto_event_markets_fit_the_prediction-market_format\"><\/span>Why crypto event markets fit the prediction-market format<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Crypto markets are well-suited to event contracts because prices move continuously and traders already follow clear benchmarks such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and major altcoin price levels. Instead of buying the underlying asset, users can trade on a defined outcome, such as whether Bitcoin will finish above a certain price by a specific date. That structure makes crypto event markets easier to understand for casual users while still appealing to people who already follow digital asset prices.<\/p>\n<p>All of this massive expansion, though, has not come without controversy. While the CFTC and the President Trump administration seem to largely view them as not gambling under federal law, not all states agree.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of states are currently in various stages of legal battles against Kalshi, Polymarket and, even already, FanDuel Predicts. In fact, FanDuel Predicts&#8217; initial launch was scaled back to avoid operating in many states where FanDuel also runs sports betting, as regulators were clear they would come down hard if they tried both.<\/p>\n<p>The regulatory picture remains unsettled. FanDuel Predicts operates through federally regulated event-contract infrastructure, but state regulators continue to scrutinize sports-related prediction markets. That tension is especially important for sportsbook-linked brands, because their existing state gambling relationships may be affected by how aggressively they expand into event contracts.<\/p>\n<p>So despite the huge expansion of the prediction market event trading model and big sportsbooks&#8217; efforts to join in, the future of the multi-billion-dollar market is far from certain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FanDuel Predicts launched in December 2025.
