What is Audius?

Audius has founded by Roneil Rumburg and Forrest Browning in 2018. The two are computer scientists with Ivy League degrees, and they also invested in Lightning Labs as early Bitcoin adopters.

In 2018, Rumburg and Browning, lovers of electronic music, began developing the platform. After completing a Series A round of funding led by General Catalyst, Lightspeed, and Pantera Capital, Audius raised US$5.5 million in August of that year. Audius also raised US$1.25 million in an extension round led by Binance Labs. In September 2019, Audius launched its mainnet.

Audius is trying to shift power and money back to the music creators by connecting listeners and artists by trimming out record labels and mediators. 

The underlying technology is a blockchain protocol that lets artists utilize a decentralized network of nodes to create records of their creative works that are immutable and timestamped.

It was built on a POA network, an Ethereum sidechain, and its letter has moved to the Solana blockchain. Developers can develop their blockchain-based applications on Audius.  

Livestreams of deadmau5 and RAC will launch Audius' main net service in October 2020.

Audius has received an investment of $5 Million from VC firms General Catalyst, Pantera Capital, and Lightspeed, and over $1.25 million in funding from the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume Binance Labs. 

A history of Audius

As you know, the Audius project started in 2018 and launched in 2020. It has gained the confidence of two of the biggest players in crypto, Binance Labs and Coinbase Ventures, since gaining its backing in October 2020. How did all this begin?

The platform already faced difficulty and criticism in its early stages, despite its launch in 2018. Regardless of the platform's goal - to provide a platform for independent artists to upload, host, and monetize their music - pirated content also had a problem.

This allowed users to earn income by uploading unauthorized content by major artists whose content was protected by copyright.

As a result of Audius' community arbitration system, which was introduced a few months ago, users who upload pirated content should no longer be able to earn the Audius token.

In the year 2018, the Audius team released the initial whitepaper. In late 2006, the Audius team distributed a very early version of the product to a group of testers so they could test and provide feedback. Following the completion and improvement of this phase, the project was finally ready to welcome its first external users. After the test net phase, the platform gained numerous new features, and it now has over 500,000 monthly users at the end of the test net phase.

Audius uses the AUDIO token to motivate users to stay on their platform. By staking AUDIO tokens, users earn rewards, and the platform begins to provide better services. The operators of nodes can stake tokens to protect the security of Audius and keep it smooth. All in all, every user can stake their tokens for better features and new and exclusive content to keep users engaged.
